Mata Sahib Kaur ji was born at Rohtas. Her father's name was Bhai Ramu. She was married to Guru Gobind Singh on 18 Vaisakh,1757 BK / 1700 CE. Guru Gobind Singh declared that Sikhs should consider Mata Sahib Kaur as the spiritual mother of the Khalsa.

When Guru Gobind Singh reached Abchal Nagar, he sent Mata Sahib Kaur to Delhi and gave her five weapons of the sixth Nanak, Guru Hargobind, for safekeeping. These weapons are today displayed at Gurdwara Rakabganj in Delhi. Mata Sahib Kaur died before Mata Sundar Kaur. Her memorial is situated near the Dehra of Guru Harkrishen Sahib.
